Spitalfields City Farm is a charity that provides opportunities for members of the public to get involved in food-growing in the city. It is located in the east London borough of Tower Hamlets, a stone’s throw from Brick Lane and the City of London. Members of staff members will provide expertise based on the experience and expectations of its members to assist with recruitment, development and evaluation of the project.
Garden Organic is the UK’s leading organic growing charity. The Heritage Seed Library (HSL) is the arm of Garden Organic that aims to conserve and make available vegetable varieties that are not widely available. Many of the seeds in this living seed library are grown by Seed Guardians who grow seed to donate back to the library and provide 40-50% of the collection. Staff from the Heritage Seed Library has been running the Sowing New Seeds workshops at Spitalfields City Farm, including how to grow, prepare and save seeds from crops not normally grown in the UK. They will provide expertise on seed-banks, help with recruitment and support throughout the project through regular meetings as well as delivering 2 seed-saving workshops.
